I've mystified and disappointed by the actions of Kenyan peace keepers in Kismayo, South Somalia.
Kenya is part of the African peace keeping mission in Somalia known as AMISOM but the current Nairobi intervention on Somali issues is unacceptable and deplorable
According to the AMISOM mission, Kenyan forces are entitled to protect government installations in Southern city of Kismayo.
Kenyans have been pressing for long time to tackle Somali government initiatives to form an administration in Kismayo. The outcome was clear, Yesterday Kenyan forces barred Somali defense minister to enter the city, a move sparked public outcry in Mogadishu.
What Kenya needs? In his address to AU leaders in Addis Ababa, Somali Pres made clear that his government will never stand idly, however he stressed that his government will put more efforts to form an administration in Kismayo. Apparently Kenya wants to impose its rule in Southern Somalia with the help of some tribal and community leaders. But this is neither the interest of Mogadishu and Nairobi.
Stable united and peaceful Somalia could lead peace and prosperity in Horn of Africa. This is also the best way to overcome terrorist groups like Al-Shabab and pirates.
There has been increasing pressure on the international community to act since Pres Mohamud was elected. US has formally recognized Somali government since 1991.
Kenyan actions are not inline with those of the international community. As a neighbor and part of AMISOM peace keepers Kenya should respect our sovereignty.
